The Saskatoon Brass Band
Puttin' On The Ritz

Puttin' on the Ritz was written by Irving Berlin in 1929, and went on to be featured in no less than three movies: “Puttin' on the Ritz' in 1930; “Idiot's Delight” with Clarke Gable in 1939; and “Blue Skies” with Fred Astaire in 1946. And when “That's Entertainment” came out in 1974 the Clarke Gable routine was played there as well.

This piece is just one example of the movie hits we will be presenting. The theme from “Mission Impossible” is indelibly imprinted in many movie goers minds, and we will be presenting an interesting brass arrangement. E.T. finally got home, but the Grammy award winning theme by John Williams stayed behind and will be featured. And who can forget Newman and Redford in 'The Sting' with their finger to the nose salute, memorialized by Scott Joplin's “The Entertainer”.

There are other delights in store as well, some less well known, but great pieces of music nonetheless. We hope to see you there, tux and ties optional.

Saturday, May 25th, 2013 -- 7:00pm -- Tickets: $10 Adult, $5 Child/Senior

Day Of The Honey Bee
Special Event

Day of the Honey Bee was a project that began May 29, 2009. Saskatoon beekeeper and activist Clinton Ekdahl saw a problem with general public awareness regarding honey bee losses across the globe. Honey bees are dying at alarming rates in every country where they are raised. The first Day of the Honey Bee was on May 29, 2010, one year after Mr. Ekdahl began writing letters to every municipal and provincial government in Canada, as well as the federal government of Canada.

On May 29th, 2013, celebrate the Honey Bee with Clinton Ekdahl at The Roxy Theatre, Saskatoon. There will be a a screening of the educational short film Mystery Of Disappearing Honeybees, followed by a discussion period for those who are interested in learning more.

You do not have to be a Beekeeper or Apiarist to participate in the celebrations on this day, nor do you have to live in Canada or a community that has issued a proclamation. Wherever you are in the world, all you need to do to celebrate this day is to do something for the honey bee.

Wednesday, May 29th, 2013 - 6:30pm -- Admission: by donation*.
*Non-perishable food donations are gratefully accepted, and will be donated to the Saskatoon Food Bank

Mongrel Media and Warner Brothers presents...
Room 237 / The Shining
Double Feature!

Starting off: the new horror documentary from Rodney Ascher, Room 237, a subjective documentary that explores the numerous theories about the hidden meanings within Stanley Kubrick's film The Shining (1980). The film may be over 30 years old but it continues to inspire debate, speculation, and mystery. Five very different points of view are illuminated through voice over, film clips, animation and dramatic reenactments. Together they'll draw the audience into a new maze, one with endless detours and dead ends, many ways in, but no way out.

Room 237 plays followed by the original Kubrick masterpiece, The Shining, in a ONE-NIGHT-ONLY double-header event on June 13th!

Thursday, June 13th, 2013 - 7:00pm - Tickets: $15 General Admission*
